Useful salt

Jesus called us, as believers, to be the “salt of the earth” which would make others thirsty for His “living water” of life everlasting. Are we doing that? Is the church doing what our Lord commanded us to do with our time on earth?  Some churches are preaching and teaching the Bible but many are not. They are being led and “talked” to by “pastors” who are just telling them what they want to hear, not what they NEED to hear.

Regardless of the time since Christ’s resurrection, He is coming back! He said it, the angels told His disciples that He would so there really isn’t any discussion of whether He will but when. I know that my blog here is not as big or as popular as I would like it to be but that is expected. Our country is moving in the direction of not being a Christian nation. We have already moved away from being a friend to Israel, which puts us in some dangerous territory. God said that He would bless those who blessed Israel and curse those who cursed (turned their back on) Israel and I believe that our country is beginning to reap the fruit of that decision.

We will not like the result and it is likely to get far worse before it will get better, if it ever does. Our lives are to be in service to Him, and to those who God knows will answer His call really don’t have much of a choice. His call on your life will be answered eventually, though it may be on your death-bed, but it will be answered hopefully in acceptance of Jesus. The alternative answer is not something that I would wish on anyone, enemy or not.

To be salt as a Christian you have to show your faith on a daily basis, not just holidays or funerals or even on Sunday morning. Part-time service is not service at all. How would you like it if cable or the Internet were only available two or three days out of a week? Or if some channels were available on Monday, but not Tuesday and Wednesday?  That is what being a sometime Christian is like. That is why the Church has always been accused of having so many hypocrites. It is because during most of the week, no one can tell the difference between you and anyone else, then on Sunday you go to your church. What type of message is that sending to those who are watching you like your children or the people you work with?  Think about it.

John 3:16,17

A prayer for America

Almighty God; We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection; that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States at large. And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation.  Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.’

This was the prayer of George Washington for our country since it was with God’s blessing and with prayer that our nation was founded and its independence acquired. I ask that it will never be out of His hands as I know it will not, regardless of what a few people say or do to get rid of any reference to God in our country!

Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ is always with us regardless of the path we may take or any decision we make regarding Him. He may not be happy about the decisions that we make if they don’t include Him, but He is still there.

Here in my home state of Mississippi, we have had a fairly powerful tornado to rip through the lives of many people this past weekend. I have no idea about the nation’s response to this because I don’t have electricity or any other ways of finding out about the news. Where I work, we have electricity but no cable television or internet. Which is fine but we have to rely on outside sources for our news right now. I pray that my message will find your families safe and in good health. We are all in God’s hands whether we like it or not. Have a blessed day!

Pride is our greatest weakness

While we are here doing everyday things and going about our lives we are being watched by demons. I am not saying this to sensationalize our daily lives but it is the truth. Whether you believe it or not, Satan and his demons are all around us watching and prodding us to keep up our daily grind in our world. “Don’t listen to your preacher or better yet, don’t go to church at all”, this is the thought that is planted by them on a daily or weekly basis.

Many other feelings and problems in our daily lives are caused or made worse because of the influence that the so-called “ruler” of this world has over our lives. If you are a child of God and have given your heart to Him, then Satan can only fling darts at you or cause things to happen to those you love. He will not be able to touch you directly but he can make you life miserable if you don’t follow and listen to Christ on a daily basis.

I am not writing this to sensationalize religion but to wake this world up to the fact that there is a devil, Satan, in our midst. He has been here since the beginning and truthfully, he hates you whether you are a Christian or not! He  helped to create all of the pagan religions in the world simply to blind people to the true God and Creator of the universe. Our Lord, Jesus the Christ, said that the ruler of this world will cause people to lose hope and to believe lies rather than the truth. This is happening all around us today! Even so-called “preachers” are telling their congregations that there are other things that have to be done to be saved or that there is no place called “hell”.

The time of the Church Age is coming to a close and there are many who are falling away today. This was foretold in the book of Revelation and it was written that the falling away would increase until our Lord comes back. The life that we live now must be a reflection of Christ so that others will come to Him while there is still time to do so. Make sure that your life and the witness that you show to others is the truth that is told in the Bible.  Don’t add to it and don’t take anything away from it! Don’t misquote scripture when you are telling someone about Christ or to bring them to your side because that is what Satan does and he does it very well.  Search out a Bible teaching church or if you can’t find one, prayerfully read and study your Bible daily if possible.  God will show you what He wants you to get out of His word and your spirit will be blessed.

Best Prayer I have heard in a Long Time…

Heavenly Father, Help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in
traffic last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day
and is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry
and spend a few precious moments with her children.

Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man
who can’t make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college
student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of
not getting his student loans for next semester.

Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the
same spot every day (who really ought to get a job!) is a slave to
addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares.

Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through
the store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savoring this
moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last
week, this will be the last year that they go shopping together.

Heavenly Father, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us,
the greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with
those we hold dear. Open our hearts not to just those who are close to
us, but to all humanity.

Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive
show patience, empathy and love. Matt 5:44 Working for God on earth doesn’t pay much……but His retirement plan
is out of this world!!!

Is today’s Church following Jesus’ commandment?

Before Jesus went back to the Father, He told His followers to “Go and tell the world the good news of salvation, to spread the gospel into all nations” (Paraphrased).  Are we doing that? The church, no matter what denomination it happens to belong to, is His body on earth. If we aren’t following His commandment and doing what He told us to do, then we are just as much at fault and in sin as the rest of the world.

If you have the spirit of God, you should be trying to follow that commandment regardless of where it takes you. Jesus wasn’t afraid to go to those considered to be un-desirable sinners by the majority of Jews in His day and we shouldn’t be either. All of humanity is created in the image of God, regardless of where they are from. We are supposed to be telling them about their spiritual condition so that they can change their ways and come to Jesus. I know the rest of the world considers this to be “elitist and narrow minded” but we can’t change the word of God!

The Bible says that belief in Jesus is the only way to have eternal life with Him, there is no other way to do it! Our life is to be a reflection of Him and our lives are to be in service to Him and for Him regardless of our occupations. The life we have here is but an instant compared with eternity so we only have the time we are given to let others know about Him. The Gideon’s are an organization which is getting God’s word into the hands of people everywhere, all over the world. I am proud to be a part of that organization but the church needs to help too. It is the body of Christ and the actions of those who are members of the church reflect upon its message.

God cares for all of humanity and He created all of us for a purpose. The Bible is the word of God and our instruction book for living life for Him. Can you truly afford not to listen to the wisdom contained in it? I have read many “self-help” books in the past and they are mostly repackaged or re-worded wisdom that can be found in the Bible. Some are “new age” but those that are don’t  usually reach the audience that others do.

It is the people, young and old alike, who are outside the church or even outside of religion altogether that should be our focus. If they don’t want to hear the message, tell them anyway or at least give them a tract or some literature which will point them to Jesus.

Once you have done that, they are responsible for their own lives and you have done your part to tell them about Jesus and the life He offers. If they have more questions, they will ask. If not, the seed is planted so let the Spirit of God work on them at that point. They will answer Him in one of two ways, but it will be their responsibility to do so.

God’s Love is for all of us

Have you ever wondered if someone cared for you. I mean REALLY cared. God does and He proves it every day. When the sun comes up and you wake from a restful night’s sleep, He has blessed you with another day of life. When you see your son or daughter laughing, that is a blessing from God as well. The small blessings that we take for granted everyday all come from Him.

The love of God is boundless and His mercy endures forever, as does His patience. If God was not so patient, our lives would be very different today if we were still here.

There are so many different religions or pseudo-religions today that many people are getting confused as to what they should believe. The only way to have eternal life with Jesus is belief in Him! These other “ways” are only pathways to hell. You won’t be serving the devil or partying or having fun like you may have been told. It will be eternal punishment because you have chosen not to accept Jesus. He doesn’t send you to hell for any other reason.

Give Him your life and you will never regret it. Do it soon, because we are not guaranteed our next breath and you may not have tomorrow or the next day to “wait until I am ready”.

The Messiah, do you know Him?

There are over 400 prophetic writings in the Old Testament which refer to Jesus’ birth, life, death and resurrection. He fulfilled them all! The probability of someone doing that without being the true Christ of God is over ten to the seventeenth power to one.

I don’t know about you, but that is more than enough proof for me.  His life, death and resurrection happened because of His love for us and for Israel at the time of His appearing.  God loves us all and would like for all of us to come to Him but He patiently waits for us to ask.

Your life can be so much more meaningful to yourself and to Him once you accept Him into your life. Jesus cares for us all and wants the best for us, but He will not force Himself into your life. He has to be asked to come in, like a visitor to your home. Although, when He comes into your heart, He will change your life in ways that no other visitor could. Give Jesus a chance in your life, He will make you into the person that you were meant to be!

Can this be real?

Every day the news just seems to get worse. From wars that stretch on for years to conflicts which burst on the news one day and are over the next day. Disasters caused by natural forces happen everywhere almost as frequently. There are many people who are asking “Why does God allow this?”

That is a very good question to ask. You would have to ask Him for the reasons behind the “stuff” that goes on all over the world. Most of them are actually caused by us or by something that we did or didn’t do. The really bad stuff that goes on can be traced to all the evil in the world because of the fallen angels that were cast to earth.

I realize that people blame God for those angels (demons) being cast to earth but the truth is that it was the result of “pride”. This is also the problem that we have individually and it is a hard thing to deal with because we can’t just “deal” with it on our own. We have to have God in our daily lives, following Him daily  to handle it.

The pride that we show in our lives is the result of the original sin of Adam. Until we decide to allow Him into our hearts and trust Him daily, we will always have more trouble than we can handle. We live in a world  controlled by evil, and by our own lusts and greed. It really won’t get better until Jesus comes back.

Please, go to a Bible teaching church. Find out that what you have looked for really is Jesus Christ. He can fill that void in your life and  will once you allow Him into your heart.

This past year has been good for some……

I’m not sure exactly how to describe the year 2009. It was the first year of Pres. Barack Obama’s presidency which some people consider a true victory. For others, this year has been a very hard year especially those who are unemployed, or those who have family deployed overseas in military operations or those who have lost a loved one because of those military operations. There have also been many "good people" who died this past year due to age or accidents or other causes.

I don’t like to think about death, especially during holidays, but since it’s a normal part of life I suppose it’s always in the back of everyone’s mind. I’m sure there are many people who don’t really know where to turn when a tragedy strikes, if you can call death a tragedy. In some cases those who have died have lived a very long productive life, while others have died far too young. Yet in all cases we who love them are not ready to let go even if we know that they are going to a better place.

It is during times like these that we have to turn to God for our comfort and our strength, because the strength that we have is not enough. I have seen many people who try to ignore the grief and pain they feel when they lose someone but eventually it can take a terrible toll on your body if you do not let it out.

God loves us all, even if we have to go through some trials and tribulations here on earth. Christians can rely on the Him for their strength but people who do not have faith in God only have their own ways of dealing with grief, loss and pain which sometimes can cause more pain. Jesus came into the world to give us hope and strength through relying on Him so that we will be able to serve him and whatever capacity that we are called to.

In God’s word, the Bible, you can find wisdom, hope, and much more useful information than you could find in most any library on earth. The Bible itself may be over 2000 years old but the information contained within it is timeless and is still relevant. There have been many people in the past few years that are trying to take all references to the Bible out of our society and our culture. As Christians in America we should not allow that to happen, in our service to Christ we cannot allow that to happen.

The Christmas season, joyous for all?

During this season of the year many people go through hunger, heartache, grief, anger and frustration. Some of these are caused by the season itself, some are caused by disease, war, famine and yet some of these problems are actually caused by humanity itself. Our inability to see you the needs around us or to take notice of those who are in need because of our selfishness.

Even in America there is hunger, homelessness, grief over the loss of a loved one because death does not take a holiday. The homeless depend upon the charity of others for their next meal them for shelter from the cold, the hungry just need to be taken care of until they can take care of themselves. Because most of the hungry in this country are children. In America we grow enough food to feed millions and yet children go to bed hungry almost every night somewhere in America.

God truly has blessed America but if we, as a nation, keep going down the road that we’re on I fear that the blessing will be taken away. We don’t revere God as much as we used to in fact there are more people bent on taking all reference to Him out of the public eye and as far from the government as possible.

I am proud to be an American but in the past few years, I have not been proud of some of the things we do at home, in our movies, or to each other on a daily basis. The moral character of our nation and its people is crumbling. Our education system was formed from the beginning of our country to bring up the children to know God and now we have taken God and all reference to him out of the schools. I have heard many people ask the question "Why is our nation in the trouble that it’s in?", and the answer lies in the fact that we don’t teach our children anymore.

God loves us all and He does want the best for us but, as the children of Israel found out, when you turn your back on God and chase after other gods He will punish you and I believe that America is beginning to be punished. Even with a revival and a turning back to God, I don’t think that we could stay His hand. Like a parent with an unruly  child, there has to be discipline at some point.

The only possibility for us to truly change is for our country as a whole to turn back to God. It would truly take a miracle but if we all pray for this to happen, earnestly and on our knees, I do believe that revival is possible. Please get into the New Testament, read the book of Romans and pray over it. God will hear you, He always does.
