Still preaching

“Many of us might die in this crash,” he called out, “so there’s something you need to know.” Andy then began explaining the Gospel simply and urgently, moving to each part of the cabin so that everyone would hear. He invited people to place their trust in Jesus Christ in repentance and faith. A flight attendant heard Andy’s words, bowed her head, and asked Jesus to forgive her sins and come into her heart. She watched many more respond and, along with another survivor, later told the story. Of the 175 people on board, 125 died, including Andy, who was still on his feet preaching the Gospel as the plane hit the water.

Would many of us done this in this situation? Knowing that in a few minutes we would be dead along with most of the people in the plane with us, could you have preached to them and tried to save their souls?

It is a testimony to this man and it shows us the kind of Christian that he was and the kind that we are supposed to be, especially in times of need.

“Lord, please give us the courage and the words in good times and in troubled times so that we can be bold enough to proclaim You and Your grace and mercy to others in their times of grief and pain and fear. Give us the grace to be the kind of disciples that we need to be in the situations that we find ourselves in in the future. In the name of Jesus, Amen.”

Are we there yet?

Did you ever hear this from your kids? I know that nearly every parent has heard it a few times. So what about all of us who live in the world today? Do you ever wonder about when or where you might end up when this life is over? Well, the when I can’t help you with and to be truthful I personally can’t help much when where either unless you listen carefully to some of the writings that I have placed here.

First, the when is entirely up to God. He knows specifically when and how you will die and leave this life, so you need to consult Him about that. Although, He won’t give you that information. We never find out when or how we die ahead of time, because that would make things too easy. The Bible says that no one knows the time or the hour of the second coming of Jesus and we also don’t know our own time of departure from this life. I really don’t want to get into the “when I will die” discussion because I don’t want to know for myself. When God decides it is time, I will go..period.

What can I tell you about the part of life concerning “are we there yet?” ? Well, with all of the movies which show aliens or asteroids or some other “end of the world” scenario, I believe that there are many people who are wondering just that very thing, are we there yet? The answer is…..we are getting close. I know, for many people this will be a let-down and a non-answer, but it is the truth and its the only answer that I can truthfully give you. No man knows when these things are going to take place, unless God gives him that information and He won’t likely do that until it is very close to happening. Even then, they won’t be given an exact day or hour if they are given any information at all!

We are to be watching and seeking Him until that day. We are also to be doing His work until that day and it will come because it has been foretold, regardless of the fact that it has been over two thousand years since Jesus’ time. Our life and everything that goes on in this world will go on as it has until the events foretold in the book of Revelation begin to happen. Paul said that we would not see any events until the “man of sin is revealed”, even though many Christians are taught that we will be “taken up” before any of the events in the book of Revelation come about.

I don’t want to get into a debate about interpretations of scripture either so I am going to stop there. The point of my writing is that we are not there yet, but the time is growing shorter by the day. Step up the attack, tell as many people as you can about Jesus, teach as many as you can about Him, because the time is right. Your Salvation and your Savior draws nearer with each passing hour and day that goes by.

Hypocrites, who wants ’em?

When I entered Heaven’s door
I was stunned and confused
Not by the beauty of everything
But by the people in the pews.

There were some there that made me
Ashamed to be seen there, and some
That I thought were surely in the
Wrong place.

Because when I looked around,
There were some that I found
Who I knew were alcoholics, thieves,
Liars, and sinners, and trash.

A kid that I knew from sixth grade
Who took my lunch money more than twice.
Then there was a neighbor of mine,
Who never said anything nice.

I walked over the Jesus and asked Him,
“What’s the deal? I would like to know, how did all of
These sinners get here? And why is everyone so quiet and
Somber, please give me a clue?”

‘Hush, child’, He said, ‘they’re all in shock. Not one of them
Thought that they would ever see you.’

So, remember, Judge not lest ye be judged! Just because you go to church, it won’t make you a Christian any more than standing in the garage makes you a car. Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future in Christ! Just because the local church is full of hypocrites doesn’t mean that heaven won’t be too!

Do you feel like a rebellious Christian?

There are likely many people who do feel that way. They call themselves Christians but they want to do it their way. It is true, we each have our own way of doing things and our own talents which God uses for His purposes, but we have to allow Him to control what we are doing for Him. We have to allow Him to come into our lives and prompt us to do things His way with our talents that He has given us.

Rebellious Christians, those who want to do things their way, are the ones who want to follow their own way. Yet, God has given us the talents and the way to follow Him and to be able to do the things that we need to do for Him. The reason that they are rebelling is because they don’t realize exactly what Jesus did for them. He gave His life for each of us, not just those who lived during His time.

How or even if you believe or don’t believe, may not matter to some right now but it will matter when you come before Him when this life is over. Just as your belief in or lack of belief doesn’t negate the existence of gravity or light or heat, the same goes for belief in Jesus and Salvation through Him. Whether you believe it now or not, it will become truth to you one day and if you don’t believe in Him before that time, then your eternity will be far different than those who chose to follow Him.

You don’t have to like the things that I write or even the subject that I write about, but the result of your unbelief will be apparent to you one day. Pick up the Word of God and read it with an open mind, not a closed mind.

A very small sermon

“For God loved the world so much and each one of us in it, that He gave (sent) His only Son. That whosoever will believe in Him and His sacrifice shall not perish (die), but will have everlasting (eternal) life.”

Paraphrase of John 3:16

Believe it, read the Word, pray to God for your forgiveness and ask Him to come into your life. Then tell others what you have come to know.

What about atheism?

Is is possible to believe in nothing or no one but yourself? It seems that it is in the culture that we live in today.

The number of books on the rejection of religion and God has exploded in the past few years. Is this something which could have been foreseen? Yes and it was foretold but there are many who have refused to teach or preach on this subject.

Your life and mine would never have happened if God did not exist. Chance and accidental combinations of chemicals can produce nothing. If that were possible, Europe and all of the countries and towns that were bombed during WWII would have never had to rebuild. The pieces would have flown apart and rearranged themselves and all would have been as it was.

Chaos does not create order, it destroys it by rearranging order into disorder. It seems that it would take an awful lot of faith in accidental order causing what we see in the universe. Is it possible that all of the whole cosmos came from an explosion with no intelligence directing it? According to scientists in our day and time, it is possible because natural forces would take all the matter from that explosion and arrange it where it needed to be. But..what about you, the fish in the ocean, the bacteria that live in total darkness at the scalding vents in the ocean, the redwood trees? These did not come about by accident and they did not evolve over millions or billions of years. The Creator, God, created those and many more. He is the “director” of the universe.

He is the one who put you together in your mother’s womb to be the person that He knows that you can be. Not what society says or dictates but what God knows you can do and be in His kingdom! Since the world that we live in is part of His kingdom and everything in it belongs to Him, why not accept it? A belief in the existence of something does not dictate whether it exists or not. If it exists then your belief in it or not has no effect on its existence. We can’t change the way the universe is or the order of things just by our thoughts and feelings.

If that were the way that things worked, then we could choose not to believe in the tax code and just not pay our taxes and everything would be fine, right? No, because as rational people we have to go along with the laws in the country that we live in and belief in those laws has nothing to do with the consequences or whether we think they may be right or not.

The world that we live in was created by God and the laws of the universe were too. Regardless of your belief or unbelief in the existence of God, He is there and always has been. His love for each of us has been there from the beginning as well and your belief or not doesn’t change that. God did not trouble Himself when He created you or this universe because it was no trouble for Him at all! He spoke and the universe and most everything in it came into being. The only created being that He took time with was man and He didn’t have to do that, but He did. God used His hands and formed mankind out of the clay of the earth and blew into his nostrils the breath of Life. We hold a special place in creation because of that.

Belief or not doesn’t change it and never will. God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to take the sins and the punishment for them on Himself so that we could find grace in Him and put on His righteousness. He died and then rose again so that we will be able to have eternal life through Him, if we will just ask Him into our lives. Being saved by God’s grace through Jesus is our choice, just as believing in God or Jesus is a choice. The choice that you make will determine your place in eternity. Which choice will you make?

Keep it simple, silly!

The principle and the message in the title is simple but our lives are not. What problems affect you and your everyday living? Bills coming due, the loss of a loved one, a sick child, all of these are upon the whole of the world regardless of the country you live in or your financial condition. How can we cope with the problems that we face everyday? Who will comfort us and show us the way to go in times of trouble?

The answer to all of these questions is Jesus. I know that there are many people who really don’t like that answer, but He is. In our lives, we have pain and doubts from physical as well as emotional problems but the only person that we can count on to be there when we need Him is Jesus. I know that many people say that is just a crutch or even a fairy tale but the prophecies contained in God‘s Word are true and most have been fulfilled. The only ones that have not are the ones concerning the end of the age and it isn’t time yet.

When that time comes, everyone will see and know Who is in charge. They may not like the outcome, but if you decide to follow Him before that day you will be a winner! Nothing that we have or get in this life goes with us when we die but the decision to follow Jesus or not determines your eternal destination. Think about it.
